Senate President asks for ministerial reshuffle

Colombia´s Senate has requested that President Alvaro Uribe reshuffle ministeral positions following a series of scandals in recent days.

The President of the Senate, Javier Cáceres, said that the series of scandals to which several officials have been linked should give pause to the Head of State, and perhaps cause him to reorder positions, reported newspaper El Espectador.

In particular he referred to the recent discovery that the Minister of Agriculture was giving out government subsidies to his cronies. Caceres said that “it is difficult to explain how such a poor country” would give state resources to wealthy individuals.
