Unemployment in Colombia continues to rise

Colombia’s unemployment rate rose to 10.8 percent in November, compared to
9.4 percent the year before, the government’s statistics department
DANE announced Tuesday.

Urban unemployment rose more than the general unemployment. The DANE statistics show unemployment in the country’s 13 largest cities was 10.4 percent in November, compared to 8.9 percent in the same month in 2007

Unemployment is expected to rise even further the beginning of 2009, because of the global economic crisis that sent many of the world’s largest economies in recession.

Until the end of last year, Colombian unemployment steadily had been going down for seven years.
