September unemployment drops to 10.6%

Colombia’s unemployment rate dropped to 10.6% in September, according to a recent report from the national statistics department DANE.

Unemployment dropped by 0.6% in September compared to the previous month. In September 2009, unemployment stood at 12.2%.

Urban unemployment in September dropped to 11.5% compared to 12.9% in the same month last year.

The cities with the highest rates of unemployment are Pereira (20.5%), Ibague (19.5%), and Popayan (18.5%).

Around 2.3 million Colombians are currently unemployed.
