Two homemade bombs explode near the Colombian president’s residence in Bogota.
Police said no injuries or damage was caused by the devices, which exploded around 12PM in the Plaza de las Armas, a square facing Casa de Nariño, the official residence of Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.
“It was about 100 yards, one block away in the direction of the Plaza de Armas,” an official, who was in the building at the time of the explosion, told Colombian news agency ABC.
A man has been taken into custody, local media reported.
Police said the explosives were “potato bombs,” the same type that has been used throughout the day in protests against Bogota’s Transmileno mass transit system. It is not yet known whether the bombings are connected to the protests.
