An accident on Tuesday involving two buses from Bogota’s Transmilenio system left at least 30 passengers injured.
Local media report that the cause of the crash was probably a pedestrian crossing the road at the wrong time. This caused one bus to switch lanes unexpectedly, after which it was hit in the back by another vehicle.
The accident took place near the junction of Caracas Avenue with 27th-South Street, in front of Olaya station.
The station was used to treat the victims, four of whom were seriously injured, until emergency services arrived.
Caracas Avenue is one of Transmilenio’s most important routes, as it connects the south and center of the city with the north and west.
This is the second Bogota transmilenio accident in less than a year. In May 2009 three people died and 28 were injured when a bus from Bogota’s mass transit system crashed into a smaller bus in the south of the capital.
