Govt does not know if FARC leader is in Venezuela

Colombia’s defense minister announced on Wednesday that it is not known whether the newly-appointed leader of the guerrilla group the FARC, “Timochenko,” is still in Venezuela.

Defense Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon said that the alleged rumor that Timochenko is still in Venezuela “has no arguments that establishes its veracity,” according to newspaper El Tiempo.

Pinzon also reiterated that cooperation with other countries in the region will make guerrillas more “uncomfortable than ever,” wherever they may be hiding.

Timochenko was last seen in a video tape in mid-2008 when he announced the death of the FARC’s former leader “Manuel Marulanda,” while confirming the recently-fallen “Alfonso Cano” as the new head.

President Juan Manuel Santos said in April that the latest intelligence report placed Timochenko on the Colombian side of the border.
