Three die in attack on ’emerald czar’

At least three people died when unknown armed men attacked Victor
Carranza, while he was traveling in the Meta department. Colombia’s
“emerald czar” himself was not injured in the attack.

According to newspaper El Tiempo, five people died. All victims are thought to be bodyguards of the wealthy emerald trader.

Carranza owns several emerald mines in the department of Boyacá and spent four years in jail after being convicted for alligning with right-wing paramilitary death squads and drug trafficking.
