Theater festival plays out in Baranquilla

“Barranquilla breathes theater” is the idea behind this years International Theater Festival that will play out in Colombia from April 26 until May 6.

In its fifth year, The International Meeting of Theater in Barranquilla (ENITBAR) will feature theatre groups from six Latin countries: Puerto Rico, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil and Colombia.

The festival, supported by theater company Confradia, aims to raise awareness of cultural, artistic and social issues while increasing tourism in the city. The cultural program is designed to campaign for improvement, protection and beautification of the city as well as other social and educational activities.

Additionally, this year theater-goers will also be able to enjoy shows in Bogota, Cali, Valledupar and Guajira, said program director Nibaldo Castro.

The festival will also pay homage to Barranquilla actor, designer and artist Tomas Urueta, who has been dressing and adorning beauty queens and Carnival dancers for over 30 years in the city.
