The war can only be won with help of the US: Uribe

Following the remarks by his vice-President that Colombia should pull
out of Plan Colombia
, President Álvaro Uribe Monday assured that the war
against drug trafficking can only be won with the help of the United
States.

“We certainly are winning the war against terrorism and drug trafficking in Colombia, but even if we are winning…we can only defeat these criminals completely with the help of the United States and the international community,” Uribe said in Honduras, where he is on an official visit.

“We still have hundred thousand hectares of drugs and still have some very dangerous cartels. We have to continue fighting them and you don’t find them alone. This requires the help of the United States and the help of the complete international community,” Uribe added.

Uribe assured that if it wasn’t for the drug trade, “the guerrillas would have disappeared a long time ago already” and “there wouldn’t have been any paramilitarism.”
