‘The Twin’ starts website to repair victims

Former paramilitary warlord and drug trafficker Miguel Angel ‘The Twin’
Mejía Munera started a website, asking forgiveness for his crimes as
paramilitary and giving victims the chance to seek reparation.

The website, pidoperdonarauca.org (I ask forgiveness Arauca) offers a form where victims of paramilitary violence in the eastern Department can ask the former head of the ‘Avengers of Arauca’ about crimes committed against them or their loved ones. ‘The Twin’, currently in a Colombian jail for drug trafficking, promises to answer these questions personally.

In the statement published on the website the former paramilitary boss asks other bosses of paramilitary umbrella organization AUC to start similar projects.

‘The Twin’ accuses Colombian authorities of frustrating a real reparation of victims. He also claims that the authorities’ accusation that he wants to escape prison proves their desire to frustrate his attempts at speaking openly about his paramilitary past. He denies knowing the man who was caught with a master key for handcuffs in his shoes.
