Sweden opens foreign trade office in Colombia

Sweden’s embassy in Colombia on Monday opened a foreign trade office in Bogota, in order to improve business relations and promote commerce between the two countries, reported Colombian media on Tuesday.

Colombia’s Swedish ambassador, Lena Nodstrom, explained that the office’s “fundamental role is to be at the service of those wishing to do business and to promote and facilitate trade” between the Nordic nation and the Andean nation.

The office will also seek to increase Sweden’s business presence in Colombia.

In 2009 trade with Sweden generated around $127 million for Colombia, with coffee making up 80% of the European country’s imports from the South American nation.

Sweden also imports flowers, fruit and coal from Colombia.

Exports [to Sweden] have increased in the last four years but we think that there is much more room to do business,” said Nodstrom.
