Suspension against Bogota mayor extended

Bogota Mayor Samuel Moreno was suspended from office for another three months, Radio Caracol reported Tuesday.

Colombia’s inspector general office announced that the suspension against Moreno would be extended as it feared that if he returned to office unlawful conduct could resume.

“Procedural budgets allow the extension of the provisional suspension,” said Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez.

Moreno was previously suspended for his alleged involvement in a public transportation scandal.  He is accused of irregularities in the disbursement of public contracts. His brother Ivan Moreno has been similarly investigated. Moreno has been replaced by interim Mayor Clara Lopez.
