Suspected killers of Medellin children arrested

Eight people were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder and dismembering of two 11-year-old children in Medellin’s Comuna 13 in February.

In a combined effort from the national and municipal police, and prosecution officials, the arrests were made on Tuesday morning in eight different raids.

The eight suspects that were taken into custody range in age from 32 to 12 years of age and have now been handed over to the local prosecutor general’s office facing charges of aggravated murder, torture, aggravated kidnapping and conspiracy to commit crime.

The two 11-year-olds were kidnapped on February 16 for allegedly crossing an “invisible border” in the Comuna 13. Their mutilated bodies were found the next day. The community of the troubled district came out in force to mourn the children and demand an end to the gang violence that is tearing apart their neighborhoods.
