Suspected Bogota statue-bombers arrested

Colombian police captured three suspects on Friday accused of bombing the bust of former President Laureano Gomez in Bogota last June.

Agents of the National Police, under the coordination of a prosecutor from the Anti-Terrorism Unit (CTI), captured Daniel Arango Sanchez, Jose Leandro Perez Castañeda, and Luis Hernando Marroquin Latorre for their participation in the bombing of the bust that also caused damage to 13 homes.

No casualties or injuries were reported in the blast that occurred on June 17.

Two days after the explosion President Juan Manuel Santos blamed right-wing extremists for the bombing saying in a speech, “The authorities have practically ruled out it was the extreme left or the FARC. This was more likely the extreme right that doesn’t want us moving forward.”

The three suspects will be brought before a Bogota judge later Friday.
