Colombia’s Supreme Court Tuesday announced it is revising the acquittal of former minister Luis Carlos Galán in 1989.
Santofimio was released from prison after the Cundinamarca Superior Tribunal absolved the former politician. he had earlier been convicted for the murder.
The right hand man of drug lord Pablo Escobar testified that Santofimio had ordered the
death of Galán, because he was in the way of his political aspirations.
“Pablo, kill him,” was what the former politician allegedly would have told the boss of Medellín’s then blossoming drug empire.
The Supreme Court, at request of the Prosecutor General and relatives of the murdered politician, is now studying if it will send Santofimio back to jail.
