Supreme Court assumes investigation of Mario Uribe

Colombia’s Supreme Court assumed the investigation against Mario Uribe, cousin of President Alvaro Uribe, for alleged paramilitary ties.

The investigation was taken from the Prosecutor General’s Office that had not been able to call the former congressman to trial after 18 months of investigating.

Uribe is suspected of having met with Salvatore Mancuso, who at the time of the alleged reunions was the leader of paramilitary organization AUC.

The President’s cousin is currently awaiting the results of the investigation as a free man, after his release because of procedural errors in August last year.
