A statue of  a national fictional character Juan Valdez was stolen from a park in Medellin Monday – and found hours later in a homeless man’s cart by local police.

The life-size statue of Juan Valdez and his mule Conchita, worth approximately $50,000, is forged from iron and reportedly weighs about 400 kilos.

It was part of a display in the surburban Laureles Park, located in eastern Medellin, but it was torn from its platform Monday morning, El Espectador reported.

Commander of the Metropolitan Police, General Jose Angel Mendoza, told Caracol Radio that he would be investigating who was complicit in the theft of the statue, as it was too heavy to be lifted from its pedestal in Laureles Park by one man.
