A grand spectacle of song and dance is set to hit Bogota this month with a run of performances dedicated to the Spanish musical theater genre of zarzuela, showing at the city’s Bellas Artes Theatre.
“The Great Season of Zarzuela,” organized by the Jaime Manzur Foundation, will celebrate 30 years work by the organization in developing Colombia’s cultural scene.
Four separate pieces; “La Viuda Alegre,” “Doña Francisquita,” “Antologia de la Zarzuela,” and “Las Leandras,” will be showcase the different sub-genres within the zarzuela tradition, which include operetta, popular song and dance.
The Jaime Manzur Foundation has hired more than 150 performing artists from around Colombia to take part in the shows, which will also involve musical performances by Spanish lyrical musician Faly Chacon.
