A citizen of Spain was found dead after taking a taxi home on Saturday night in a north Colombia town on the outskirts of Medellin, local media reported on Monday.
Juan Carlos Gila Sanchez, 50, known as “El Español” in the northern community where he had lived since 2007, was found covered in blood Sunday morning in his neighborhood by the side of the road at around 5AM by a neighbor, Medellin’s El Colombiano newspaper reported.
Gila was the well-known owner of a series of fast food restaurants in the community, Medellin’s Q’Hubo newspaper reported.
Agents from the Technical Investigation Team (CTI) of the Prosecutor General’s Office arrived at the scene around 7AM and concluded that Sanchez had suffered a knife wound to the head, three others in the back, and others to his right arm.
According to friends, Gila had left for home in a taxi around 12:30AM after a night out with friends in the same wealthy sector of Cabuyal where he lived.
“After that, no one knows more about him,” said one of his acquaintances as quoted in El Colombiano.
Motives behind the death are currently unknown, though authorities and residents of Cabuyal suspect either a crime of passion, a robbery attempt, or a money problem.
Gila was unmarried with no children, and lived alone with his seven dogs in a large country house, neighbors said. His community recalls him as “a very friendly person that got along with everyone.”
