Soccer: Pasto beat Cartagena, Nacional lose to Santa Fe

Deportivo Pasto reduced the gap with Copa Mustang II leaders Medellin thanks to a 1-0 win over Cartagena, while Santa Fe remain alive following a 1-2 victory at Nacional.

Second placed Deportivo Pasto hosted Real Cartagena, one of several teams that are currrently just outside the top eight. For a long time, things seemed to be heading for a goalless draw at Libertad stadium, until Pasto’s Carlos Hidalgo finally broke the deadlock in minute 84.

Deportivo Cali required a win against Atletico Huila in order to stay close to the top eight, but were instead held to a 2-2 draw. Sergio Herrara scored both goals for Cali, Ivan Velasquez did so for Huila. Ervin Gonzalez of was sent off for the visiting side in minute 82.

Junior did themselves a great favor with a convincing 3-0 win over America in Barranquilla. Giovanni Hernandez opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, and Hernando Patiño doubled the advantage in the 73rd. The third and final goal came from Carlos Bacca with seven minutes to go.

Santa Fe closed on the top eight of the Copa Mustang thanks to a 1-2 win at Atletico Nacional, who in turn feel the pressure of being in eighth place. Daniel Neculman put Santa Fe ahead after just sixth minutes, and Juan Quintero doubled the advantage in minute 25. Nacional pulled one back through Giovanni Moreno, from the penalty spot just before the break, but it wasn’t enough for Nacional to avoid defeat.

Deportes Quindio and La Equidad held each other to a 2-2 draw. Mauricio Romero and Dany Santoya scored for the home side, while Roman Torres and Jhersson Cordoba netted for the guests. Alvaro Manga was sent off for La Equidad in the 37th minute, and was followed by Quindio’s Adrian Aranda in the 68th.

Cucuta Deportivo beat Envigado 1-0 with a goal from Wilson Albornoz in the 20th minute. Both teams had a man sent off; Jonny Mosquera for Cucuta in the 50th minute and Cesar Arias for Envigado in the 90th.
