Six soldiers arrested for murdering civilians

Police arrested six soldiers in Villavicencio Thursday for the alleged murder on
two civilians who later were presented as guerrillas killed in combat.

The six, serving in the Army’s 16th Brigade, are suspected of having murdered an oil industry worker and an employee of a public service company in a village in the north east of Colombia on August 10, 2007.

The victims were registered by the soldiers as members of a drug trafficking gang killed in combat.

The prosecution is investigating more than a thousand cases of these so-called ‘false positives’.
