Six illegal Nepali arrested on their way to Venezuela

Six Nepali citizens were arrested Monday by Colombian police when they illegally tried to travel through Colombia to Venezuela. The Nepalis allegedly were on their way to the United States.

The five men and one woman were traveling by bus from Bogota to Maicao in the La Guajira department. Near Urumita, a police control discovered that the Nepali citizens did not have entrance stamps in their passports.

Authorities believe that the illegal travelers entered Colombia through Ecuador.

“We could establish that [the Colombian-Venezuelan border] is a traveling route for people who want to illegally enter the United States,” Commander of the La Guajira police, colonel Luis Fernando Burgos, told El Tiempo.

Last December, the police arrested 20 Chinese people who tried to take the same route to the United States.
