Shakira to sing at Latin Grammys

Colombian pop superstar Shakira will perform at the Latin Grammy Awards on November 10.

The Barranquilla native’s latest album “Sale El Sol” (The Sun Comes Out), which she has been promoting on her world tour since September 2010, is nominated for Album of the Year, as will as Best Female Pop Vocal Album. Her “Loca” music video is up for Best Short Form Music Video.

Shakira (a seven-time Latin Grammy winner) will also be honored as the 2011 Person of the Year at a special presentation the night before the awards broadcast.

“It is truly an honor to be in the company of some of the greatest artists and legends of Latin Music,” Shakira said of her achievement.

Meanwhile, Colombian pop duo Siam, which rose to fame by winning the 2009 Colombian X Factor, is hoping their self-titled first album will receive Best Pop Album by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

Bogota punk band Don Tetto will be competing for Best Rock Album with its latest, “Mienteme – Prometeme.”

Doctor Krapula’s album “Corazon Bombea/Vivo” has been nominated for Best Alternative Music Album. The song “Somos,” is up for Best Alternative Song.

The 12th annual Latin Grammy Awards will be held on November 10, 2011 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and aired on the Univision network.
