Senator called for questioning over notary scandal

Colombia’s Supreme Court Friday called Senator Alirio Villamizar
Afanador to respond to allegations he allegedly received government
bribes
to approve the 2006 re-election of President Alvaro Uribe.

The Criminal Chamber of the Court decided to question Villamizar after investigators found more than a billion pesos (US$500,000) in cash in his home last week.

Villamizar will have to respond to allegations former superintendent of notaries, Manuel Cuello Baute, who said the congressman received a notary office for his support.

The Supreme Court also opened a preliminary investigation to explain the source of the more than a billion pesos found in Villamizar’s home
