Santos discusses future agenda with Chavez

Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos revealed how he phoned Venezuela president Hugo Chavez to congratulate him on his re-election and discuss future relations between the two countries.

Chavez earned a fourth term in charge of the country when he won a 55.5% of the votes on Sunday, taking his years in power to a possible 20.

Santos revealed on his Twitter account that he had spoken to Chavez over the phone to offer his congratulations and also discuss issues on common agenda between the two neighboring countries.

Colombia’s president also commended the “patriotic and democratic attitude” of Henrique Capriles, the candidate who lost to Chavez in Sunday’s election.

Colombia and Venezuela will look to maintain good relations in the coming years to combat on going problems such as drug trafficking and insecurity in the countries’ border region and maintain growing trade between the two countries.
