Santa Fe is top Colombian club in ranking of world’s best soccer teams

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) released its rankings of the world’s best soccer teams over the last year Wednesday, with several Colombian squads making the list.

The IFFHS rankings, which takes into account games played between May 1 2011 and April 30 2012, awards points based on teams’ performance at the club level, with more points given out to clubs belonging to premier leagues.

While Spanish powerhouse Barcelona topped the list, Santa Fe beat out all other Colombian teams with a ranking of 96. Medellin’s Atletico Nacional was ranked the second-best in the country, coming in at 115. A total of nine Colombian clubs appeared in the top 500.
