Cambio Radical will not join coalition until Uribe’s fate decided

Leader of coalition party Cambio Radical stated Tuesday that he will not join a coalition until it is clear whether President Uribe will be allowed to run for a second re-election.

German Vargas Lleras, leader of the party and candidate for the March 2010 presidential elections was asked on Monday to join a coalition of parties comprising The Partido de la U and the Conservatives with the aim of creating a united front to combat opposition to President Alvaro Uribe and continue Uribe’s policies.

Vargas Lleras declined, for the time being, the invitation extended to him by Partido de la U leader, Juan Manuel Santos, reported news site CMI.

The Radical Change leader stressed that is was necessary to know the future of Uribe’s re-election before forming coalitions and that if invitations to form political alliances are to be made, they should be done so in person and not via the media.
