“Finance Minister offers resignation”

Colombian Finance Minister Oscar Ivan Zuluaga offered his resignation
to President Álvaro Uribe over a growing crisis involving pyramid
schemes and growing tensions within the cabinet, magazine Portafolio
reported Wednesday
.

According to the weekly, Uribe hasn’t yet accepted the resignation.

The relation between the Minister and the President would have worsened over the past weeks as the scale of the pyramid crisis became known, adding to that, the Minister has aspirations to run for President himself in the next election.

According to sources consulted by the magazine, Uribe indoors has spoken harshly over his minister, who upto recently was considered one of the most successful members of the cabinet because of the economic growth Colombia enjoyed over the past years.

The pressure on Uribe and his cabinet has grown after the collapse of a pyramid scheme and the government intervention in DMG, another suspected pyramid scheme and money launderer caused protests spread over Colombia and seem to have destroyed the savings of hundreds of thousands, mostly poor, Colombians.
