Prosecutor investigates Justice Minister for alleged parapolitics

Colombia’s Prosecutor General’s office opened a preliminary
investigation into possible links between current Interior and Justice
Minister Fabio Valencia Cossio and former paramilitary boss Ramón Isaza.

Valencia Cossio immediately announced he will fully cooperate with justice.

The Interior and Justice Minister will be investigated for a letter that surfaced in September allegedly from the paramilitary boss and addressed to Valencia Cossio.

In the letter, the paramilitary boss says associates of Valencia Cossio had asked him to endorse his election as member of the board of directors of the Conservative Party in 1995.

According to the letter, a copy of the response was sent to now president and then governor of Antioquia, Álvaro Uribe.
