Presidential pre-candidate unable to vote

Presidential pre-candidate Andres Felipe Arias was unable to vote in Colombia’s congressional elections Sunday because he is registered to vote in Los Angeles, and not in Bogota, where he resides.

In order to have been able to vote in Colombia, Arias should have requested new identity papers for Colombia’s capital city months ago.

Hundreds of thousands of Colombians were also unable to vote because they did not renew their identity papers on time and register in the city in which they currently reside.

The Conservative Party is holding its primary today. Uribe supporter Arias, is hoping to win the primary and become the party’s candidate for the May 30 presidential election.
