President Santos to sanction Citizen Security Law in Medellin

President Juan Manuel Santos will enshrine into law the wide-ranging Citizen Security Law on Friday at 12:00PM in Medellin, reported Caracol Radio.

Among other measures, the law provides longer criminal sentences for minors who commit violent crimes, provides the Prosecutor General’s Office more power to create positions to combat crime and creates harsher penalties for soccer hooligans who disrupt public order.

Child traffickers and members of criminal organizations will also receive harsher penalties as a result of measures included in the new law.

Santos will sanction the law at a ceremony in Parque Berrio in downtown Medellin after having mass in the Catedral Basilica Metropolitana to celebrate the next congressional session.
