Colombia most successful country in fight against drugs: President Santos

President Juan Manuel Santos says that Colombia is the most succesful country in the fight against drug trafficking at a forum for international anti- corruption day on Thursday, reported W Radio.

Santos supported this claim by emphasizing the comprehensiveness of Colombia’s drug policy in attacking “all links in the chain, from the production, processing and trafficking, to related criminal activities such as money laundering.”

To illustrate his point, Santos pointed to the once “big bosses” of the drug cartels who had almost brought Colombia’s democracy “to its knees,” and have become the “little chiquitos” – fragmented, isolated and fighting amongst themselves.

While the president acknowledged that a different international approach to the war on drugs was needed, he also said that Colombia would maintain its aggressive strategy until “the international community discovers a better alternative.”
