Pope Benedict XVI names Colombian bishop

Pope Benedict XVI has named Alberto Omar Sanchez Cubillos as bishop in Tibu, in the northern Colombian department of Norte de Santander, reported The Vatican Wednesday.

Cubillos Sanchez was born in 1963 in Zipaquira, Cundinamarca and studied in Studium Generale of the Order of Preachers and also studied dogmatic theory at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, newspaper El Espectador reported.

The 48-year-old bishop was ordained as priest in 1990 and has since served as a preacher in Barranquilla and as a professor in the University of Santo Tomas in Bogota.
