Polo threatens to sue Uribe over referendum

Colombian opposition party Polo Democratico says it will sue President Alvaro Uribe if he decrees a bill allowing his possible 2010 re-election bid.

House Representative German Reyes says he will denounce the President before the House’s Accusation’s Committee if Uribe does not declare himself impeded to sanction the bill.

According to the social-democratic opposition party, Uribe is impeded to ratify the law, because he is the one to favor of it.

The Presidency wrote the lawmaker it sees no problem in signing the law, as the bill allows a referendum on the second re-election of any President, not Uribe personally.

Reyes however is not convinced of the Presidency’s arguments and says he will sue Uribe for malfeasance.
