Polo leader wants ‘common front’ against Uribe’s re-election

Polo Democratico leader Carlos Gaviria proposed to his Liberal Party
counterpart Cesar Gaviria to join forces to stop the second re-election
of Colombia’s President Alvaro Uribe

“A second re-election of Colombia’s current President would be deeply damaging to the country and, therefore, our parties should form a common front, in partnership with all political and social organizations that share our goal”, the Polo head stated in an open letter to the Liberal.

He suggests a “formal meeting” between representatives of the two parties in order to draft an “action plan”.

Former President Cesar Gaviria has been one of the most explicit opponents of a second re-election of the President and already met with a number of other political leaders to form a coalition against a third term for Uribe.
