Polo Democratico blasts Francisco Santos comments

The Polo Democratico party blasted former Vice President Francisco Santos for meddling in the corruption case brought against Bogota Mayor Samuel Moreno, reports El Espectador.

Santos, now head of RCN Radio, announced on his station that the Inspector General’s Office was ready to dismiss Moreno.

The mayor is currently under investigation for allegedly granting public works contracts in exchange for payment but a decision has yet to be made.

Leader of the Polo Democratico Party Clara Lopez Obregon lambasted Santos for abusing his media platform to influence the decision of the inspector general.

“The country is beginning a new era in journalism where using the press box is used for partisan purposes, and in order to divert attention, as Santos Calderon has,” Obregon said.

Senator Jorge Enrique Robledo of Polo Democratico also criticized Santos’ statements, saying that he was orchestrating a smear campaign.

Bogota Councillor Alvaro Argote said that it was too soon for a decision to be made as “there are still instances [in the case against Moreno] that have not been exhausted.”
