Police seized four tons of marijuana hidden amid boxes of powdered milk in western Colombia, local media reported Wednesday.
The truck was searched at a police checkpoint between the towns of Rozo and Candelaria in the southwestern Colombian department of Valle del Cauca.
Police said the marijuana came from the nearby Cauca department, a strategic drug trafficking corridor that has recently seen an upsurge in violence, in part due to its marijuana and coca-rich terrain and access to the Pacific Ocean.
According to authorities, the driver appeared to be heading for the Norte de Santander department along the Venezuelan border. Police said they have seized 11 tons of marijuana in this area since January.
