Police offer $1.5 million for FARC leader

Colombian police are offering a reward of up to US$1.5 million for information leading to the capture of FARC leader Oscar Montero, alias ‘El Paisa’.

According to National Police director Oscar Naranjo, ‘El Paisa’ is responsible for the murder of Liliana Gaviria, sister of former President César Gaviria. Gaviria and her bodyguard were killed in Pereira on April 27, 2006 in a failed kidnapping of the famous politician’s sister.

The announcement follows the arrest Sunday of three members of the Teófilo Forero FARC front – of which ‘El Paisa’ is the leader. Among those arrested was James Patamala alias ‘Hermer Triana’, second in charge of the unit.
