Police intelligence director stabbed to death in south Colombia

Police are looking for two unknown assassins who allegedly stabbed and killed the director of the Police Intelligence Service of Putumayo, south Colombia, on Wednesday night.

Authorities confirmed that the police director, Captain Jacobo Cardenas Galindo, was killed in the city of Macoa and that the victim had been leading a number of investigations against drug trafficking groups, guerrillas and criminal gangs that were active in the department of Putumayo.

According to local media, the Police Commander in Putumayo, Colonel Juan Alberto Libreros, offered over $15,000 as a reward Thursday for any information leading to the capture of the men who allegedly stabbed the police director to death in the city of Macoa.

According to the police commander, Cardenas had been with his girlfriend when two unknown strangers attempted to rob him at knife point. Cardenas allegedly attempted to prevent the armed robbery from taking place and was fatally stabbed.

The police are currently conducting an investigation into the murder.
