Police discover cocaine lab in central Colombia

Colombian police discovered a cocaine processing lab in the central department of Meta, reported local media Tuesday.

The lab, where officers discovered 540kg of hydrochloride used to process cocaine, allegedly belonged to the Popular Revolutionary Antiterrorist Army of Colombia (ERPAC), a criminal organization primarily made up of former paramilitary members.

Gunfire was exchanged between police and armed guards at the site, but no one was injured or captured.

The coca processing facility could house up to 30 people and had a fully functional kitchen. Two tons of hydrochloride were processed in the lab a month, according to police, who estimate that the lab is worth $454,000.
