Police capture alleged ex-paramilitaries, thieves in Bogota

The police captured six alleged robbers, including two former paramilitary members, attempting to steal from a dental hospital in Suba, a neighborhood in the north of Bogota.

Colombian media reported that one of the paramilitary members is Omar Lavin, alias “Candado,” who was a bodyguard of Carlos Castaño, the founder of the AUC paramilitary organization.

The armed group stole $13,000 in cash and jewelry as well as several cell phones.

The six will be charged with aggravated robbery and the illegal possession of weapons.
