Police capture 17 ‘Urabeños’ in Cartagena

Police on Tuesday said they have captured 17 members of criminal gang “Los Urabeños” in Colombia’s Caribbean city of Cartagena.

Along with the gang members, the police also seized 202 pounds of cocaine, three handguns, two grenades, and two motorcycles.

According to police intelligence that prompted the raid, this gang was dedicated to extortion, drug-trafficking and assassinations. The arrests could clear up at least 20 homicides in the area around Cartagena and the poorer neighborhoods on the periphery of the popular tourist destination.

President Juan Manuel Santos recently said Los Urabeños were the last remaining gang with national influence.
