Police from the Colombian Caribbean coastal city of Cartagena arrested six people in relation to the assassination of Ricardo de Jesus Martinez Torres, the brother of Colombia’s Mining and Energy Minister Hernan Martinez.

According to police, the five men and one woman arrested belonged to a gang which engages in paid assassinations, theft and extortion, and is headed by “Yeison”, “Baron” and “Gordis.”

The six detainees will be charged with aggravated homicide and carrying of illegal arms.

Police will hold a press conference later Monday to provide more details of the arrests.

Martinez was assassinated April 20, while driving between Cartagena and the northern town of Turbaco, in the Bolivar department.

Martinez died immediately, and his wife, who was traveling with him, was seriously wounded.

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe offered a $25,000 reward for any information that leads to the assailant’s arrest.
