Plot to stall re-election referendum: Urbistas

Members of the coalition believe there is still a plot to stall the passing of the referendum on the re-election of
president Alvaro Uribe.

President of the Senate Hernán Andrade said that if a settlement isn’t reached by June 20 then extra sessions will be added until an outcome is reached.

“I will continue to defend the notion that those who decided if there will be a re-election or not are the voters at the polls, but i have no doubt that there is a plot to stall the referendum,” Andrade said.

Senator Luís Elmer Arenas said that it is an opposition strategy to stall the passing of the referendum.

The referendum is delayed after coalition party Partido de la U tried to disallow House President German Varon to appoint Representatives to take part in the inter-chamber commission that has the last vote on the referendum bill. The dismissal was followed by the request to disallow Senate President Andrade to pick his members.
