Plane crash in Meta kills 2

Two people were killed and three injured when a small plane crashed in the central Colombian department of Meta, according to local officials.

The single-engine plane took off from the Vanguardia Airport in the department’s capital city of Villavicencio en route to the jungle town of La Macarena, but went down shortly after take-off, EFE reported Wednesday.

According to authorities, it appears that the crash was the result of technical failures, which were reported by the pilot prior to crashing.

The two people killed in the crash were pilot Arturo Rodriguez and passenger Hector Julio Usme. The three injured include two women and a 6-year-old boy, who were transported to a local hospital following the accident.

Julio Usme, was leading a project in La Macarena to conduct an investigation on solid-waste management.
