Colombian Senator Piedad Cordoba declared her intention Thursday to take legal action against those responsible for abusing her political movement via the internet.
Following the recent announcement that FBI agents assisted the Colombian authorities in locating a youth responsible for threatening President Alvaro Uribe’s son via Facebook, Cordoba revealed that she and her congressmen wished to pursue legal action against those who have made similar internet threats against her political movement.
According to Cordoba’s advisor, the senator had been the target of internet groups calling for violent acts against her, as well as having many of her web pages attacked by hackers, reported new site Terra Thursday.
The advisor stated that “we are ready to begin a series of actions … to safeguard the good name of Senator Piedad Cordoba.”
The advisor explained that he hoped similar measures would be taken to punish those responsible for threatening Cordoba as those taken to capture the youth who threatened Uribe’s son.
Regarding the case involving the president’s son, a youth called Nicolas Castro was recently imprisoned for creating a Facebook group which proclaimed his intention to murder Uribe’s son.
