Paramilitaries deny ties to former Medellin prosecutor

Former paramilitary leader ‘El Aleman’ and ‘Don Mario’ told the Supreme Court that they had never worked with former Medellin Director of Prosecution Guillermo Valencia Cossio, who is on trial for illegal collaboration and negotiation with criminal gangs.

Freddy Rendon Herrera, alias ‘El Aleman’ – the jailed paramilitary leader of the Elmer Cardenas Block in Urabá – denied Tuesday that Valencia Cossio had had links to paramilitary organization the AUC or any other illegal group. ‘El Aleman’ made this declaration at Valencia Cossio’s trial before the Supreme Court.

‘El Aleman’ also rejected claims that John Freddy Manco Torres, alias ‘El Indio’, was a member of his brother Daniel Rendón Herrera, alias ‘Don Mario’s’ criminal group, Radio Santa Fe reported Tuesday.

The Prosecution have claimed that evidence of phone conversations between Valencia Cossio and paramilitary ‘El Indio’ proves that the former Medellin director of prosecution had ties to ‘Don Mario’.

Captured former Medellin drug lord ‘Don Mario’ told the Court that he had never met Valencia Cossio and had only ever seen him on television. He also denied that ‘El Indio’ belonged to his illegal organization, CM& reported Tuesday.
