Former Colombian senator Piedad Cordoba claimed neo-paramilitary groups were paid to carry out her assassination, she said in a statement Thursday, reported local media.
Cordoba announced that individuals of high status offered a million-dollar sum to Colombia’s most powerful drug gang, Los Rastrojos, and “the extreme right-wing militia” Las Aguilas Negras (Black Eagles), to carry out her assassination.
The former senator said that she now knows the names of the individuals who were allegedly conspiring to murder her and that she will turn this information over to authorities.
Olga Amparo Sanchez, a member of Cordoba’s human rights group, Colombians for Peace.
On Wednesday Cordoba claimed that she was targeted in an assassination plot.
