Over 900 displaced by violence in Antioquia

915 peasants were forced to leave their lands in north eastern
Antioquia Wednesday allegedly because of increasing pressure from
FARC-guerrillas.

The 410 men, 290 women and 215 children were forced to leave the
villages surrounding the city of Anorí and were seeking refuge inside
the city, RCN Radio reported.

Local authorities say they expect more people to flee the rural area and are providing humanitarian aid and shelter.

Antioquia police commander Luis Eduardo Martínez Guzman said the
armed forces in the region will be reinforced Thursday morning to allow
the people to go home safely.
