Ospina withdraws as candidate PG

Camilo Ospina withdrew his candidacy for Prosecutor General a year after he resigned as ambassador to the OAS hoping he would be the country’s next highest prosecutor.

Ospina was the last of the initial three candidates proposed by President Alvaro Uribe. The other two candidates resigned earlier, following the Supreme Court’s refusal to elect a new PG from the presidential shortlist.

Media had criticized that none of the initial candidates had any experience in penal law.

Ospina is replaced by former Supreme Court of Justice president Jorge Anibal Gomez Gallego.

The Court was supposed to have elected a new Prosecutor General, but so far said it was unable to with the candidates proposed by the presidency.
